Business Sense: Supporting Workers with Long COVID

August 20, 2021
Source: U.S. Department of Labor Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP)

For many Americans, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will be felt for years to come. This is especially true for people experiencing ongoing symptoms of the coronavirus, a condition referred to as “Post-Acute COVID-19 Syndrome” or, more commonly, “Long COVID.”

Long COVID encompasses a range of symptoms that can last weeks or months after being infected with the virus that causes COVID-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has more information and a list of symptoms associated with the condition.

Recognizing that many people facing Long COVID are valued members of our workforce, employers of all sizes may seek ways to support them in remaining in the workforce and delivering on the job. That’s why the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy published a new webpage dedicated to employment-related COVID-19 and Long COVID resources.

For employers, the tool features information on providing job accommodations for people experiencing Long COVID, a toolkit on accessible telework, and various resources for ensuring safe, healthy and inclusive workplaces during the COVID-19 recovery.

The web page also offers COVID-19-related resources for workers, youth and policymakers and links to a recent White House webinar on Long COVID-19 and a public service announcement from Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh.

Supporting those with Long COVID is one more important facet of protecting the health and safety of America’s workers and ensuring a fruitful — and inclusive — economic recovery.

Visit the COVID-19 and Long COVID Resources webpage.
