Disability Studies Quarterly Archives Available Online

March 21, 2019
Source: Disability Studies Quarterly and The Ohio State University

The full Disability Studies Quarterly (DSQ) Archives are now available through The Ohio State University’s “Knowledge Bank.” Disability Studies Quarterly dates back to July 1980, and while all DSQ issues from 2000-forward have been open access and online since the journal found its digital publishing home at The Ohio State University Libraries in 2006, the issues before 2000 have remained in scattered (and largely incomplete) locations and were basically inaccessible for research/scholarship.

The digitization of all DSQ materials was a labor of love, fund-finding, and disciplinary care, spearheaded jointly by the remarkable team in the OSU Libraries--led especially by Maureen Walsh, Scholarly Sharing Strategist at the OSU Libraries Knowledge Bank -- in consultation with 2006-2012 DSQ Editor, Brenda Brueggemann. Recent DSQ Co-Editors, Kim Nielsen and Allyson Day also joined important conversations about the development of the archives. Finally, the archives were largely made possible by the generous donation from Dr. Richard Scotch of the complete set of early DSQ issues back to July 1980.

The 2019 Multiple Perspectives on Access, Inclusion, and Disability conference, a joint venture with the Society for Disability Studies at The Ohio State University on April 6-9, 2019, will also feature a plenary roundtable discussion devoted to the full DSQ Archives. The DSQ Archives session will take place on Monday morning, April 8, 8:30-10:00 am. Leading the roundtable discussion (which will also ask for audience participation) are, in alphabetical order:

Sara M. Acevedo: Miami University of Ohio; Policy and Publications Committee Co-chair and DSQ Liaison to the SDS Board.
(Moderator) Brenda Jo Brueggemann: University of Connecticut; Current DSQ Co-Editor, Former SDS Board President.
Noah Bukowski: Ohio State University, M.A./PhD. Student, English/Rhetoric & Composition, Disability Studies
Devva Kasnitz: SDS Executive Director, CUNY-SPS, Former SDS Board President
Philip Smith: Former SDS Board President
Maureen Walsh: The Ohio State University Libraries, Scholarly Sharing Strategist
Joanne Woiak: University of Washington, Current SDS Board President
