Feature Expands Accessibility for Blind and Low-Vision Customers
[Blog Post on June 12, 2017] I am delighted to announce that last week we launched audio description support for Amazon Video, providing our blind and visually-impaired customers access to professional narration describing what is taking place during stretches where there is no dialog. More than 100 movies from studios such as Disney, Lionsgate, NBC, Paramount, and Warner Brothers are now available with English audio descriptions, including such titles as The Hunger Games, Inception, Captain America: Civil War, and The Big Short. Furthermore, 10 of the most popular Amazon Original TV shows such as Bosch, The Man in the High Castle, Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent, Creative Galaxy, and Gortimer Gibbons are also now available with audio description. In all, this comprises hundreds of hours of described content on Amazon Video. Audio descriptions are available on popular titles included with a Prime Video subscription, as well as those for purchase or rent.
The feature is available today on Fire TV, Fire Tablets, iOS devices, and Android devices. Customers can view and browse through titles with audio descriptions by going to http://www.amazon.com/video/audiodescription. The selection of titles available on the page will be updated continuously as we expand the number of titles which support audio descriptions. To play a title with audio descriptions, customers just need to select the “English- audio description” audio option from the “Subtitles and Audio” menu during playback.
This is Day 1 for audio description at Amazon, and we will be refining the experience and search capabilities in the future. Let us know how you are using audio descriptions on Amazon videos at firstname.lastname@example.org; we [would] love to hear from you.
