May 19 Is Global Accessibility Awareness Day
May 18, 2016
Source: Global Accessibility Awareness Day
Join the celebration on Thursday, May 19 2016 and mark the fifth Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). The purpose of GAAD is to get people talking, thinking and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) accessibility and users with different disabilities.
The target audience of GAAD is the design, development, usability, and related communities who build, shape, fund and influence technology and its use. While people may be interested in the topic of making technology accessible and usable by persons with disabilities, the reality is that they often do not know how or where to start. Awareness comes first. Read the blog post by Joe Devon that inspired GAAD at https://mysqltalk.wordpress.com/2011/11/27/challenge-accessibility-know-how-needs-to-go-mainstream-with-developers-now/.
Whether or not you participate in an organized activity with others, join us and take an hour out of your day to experience digital accessibility first-hand.
Go to the GAAD website to participate using email, Facebook, and Twitter.
Learn more about -- How GAAD got started, public events that you are invited to attend, and other activities taking place to mark the day. Details are available in several languages.
