DOL Seeks Public Comment on Proposed Rules Updating WIOA

February 22, 2016
Source: U.S. Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP)

Section 188 WIOA prohibits discrimination under Title I because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, political affiliation or belief.

The U.S. Department of Labor Civil Rights Center (CRC) has announced a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) updating the Section 188 Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Nondiscrimination and Equal Opportunity Regulations (29 CFR Part 38). A video (captioned, 15:16 min.) explaining Section 188 and the changes proposed in the NPRM is available.

The proposed rule would increase equality of opportunity for the millions of job applicants, training participants, program beneficiaries, and funding recipients employees who interact with the workforce development system each year.

The comment period for the NPRM closes on March 28, 2016.

The LEAD Center also issued a policy brief that provides a summary of the NPRM from a disability perspective - Section 188 of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act: Summary Review of the DOL Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, from a Disability Perspective.
