Apply for the 2007 Education Leadership Academy

On behalf of the DBTAC: Southeast ADA Center (Southeast DBTAC) you are cordially invited to attend the 2007 Education Leadership Academy (Academy)! Throughout the Academy, you will have the opportunity to learn more about accessible information technology (IT) and to develop partnerships with others who share your vision. Our goal is for you to return to your institution as a team and implement policies and procedures that will benefit all people, including those with disabilities, in accessing your campus’ information and instruction.

Cost & Format of Academy

As always, we are happy to offer the Academy free of charge to all participants.
Deadline to Register: May 4, 2007

To maximize the opportunities for effective institutional change, we ask participants from each institution to be a part of a three-person team, including:

  1. Representative from your institution’s disability services office;
  2. Representative from your institution’s information technology office;
  3. "Change Agent," an individual who is willing and able to take the information received from the Academy and impact campus leadership to modify campus policy on accessible information technology.

Past attendees will notice a few changes this year to the format of the Education Leadership Academy (Academy). The Academy is moving to an online, fully interactive and accessible web conference format. Since this conference format will eliminate the need for travel and allow attendees to participate from their offices or home, we hope this change will allow more participants to take advantage of the Academy.

The Academy will be split into distinctive learning modules for each day. Each module will be taught within an online conferencing room that is fully enabled for two-way text and voice communication, and compatible with current accessibility software. Due to technology requirements, we ask that each participant this year have access to an Internet connection, a PC computer, a set of speakers or headphones, as well as a microphone for discussion. A small, security-safe plug-in will be necessary in order for the conferencing system to work from your computer, which may require assistance from your network administrator for installation. Unfortunately, we do not have support for Macintosh computers. After registration, detailed instructions regarding the conferencing technology will be provided.

Schedule of Academy

Below you will find a schedule and summary of the modules that will be presented on each day of the Academy. The Academy will take place over a two-week period, with 2 hours of instruction on each of four days. All participants will receive CEU credit for 8 hours of instruction time.

  • Monday – May 14, 2007
    12:00-2:00 pm EST – Introduction and Overview; Video module
  • Wednesday – May 16, 2007
    12:00-2:00 pm EST – Web Design module
  • Monday – May 21, 2007
    12:00-2:00 pm EST – Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat modules
  • Wednesday – May 23, 2007
    12:00-2:00 pm EST – Information Technology Policy module; Review and Evaluation
