Three New Training Modules Added to JAN's Workplace Accommodation Toolkit
October 9, 2017

The Job Accommodation Network (JAN), a source of free, expert and confidential guidance on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues, has added three new training modules to its Workplace Accommodation Toolkit. The Toolkit provides resources to help U.S. businesses successfully recruit, hire and retain applicants and employees with disabilities. The new training modules depict situations frequently experienced between managers and employees with disabilities during various phases of the employee's life cycle. Each scenario culminates in a solution to the situation posed. Videos showing the accommodations and solution are accompanied by a slide presentation with learning points from the video.
“JAN continues to experience increases in requests for information related to the reasonable accommodation process and creating disability-inclusive workplaces. The Toolkit and embedded training modules are designed to respond to these requests,” said Lou Orslene, JAN Co-Director.
Currently, the Toolkit includes training modules depicting 1) an interview with an applicant on the Autism Spectrum, 2) a conversation with a veteran with hearing loss and post-traumatic stress disorder who requests accommodations to retain his job, and 3) an exchange between a new supervisor and an employee with a mental-health condition regarding job performance. The training modules released today depict workplace scenarios including retaining an individual with a chronic health condition, hiring an individual with an anxiety disorder resulting in a stutter, and returning a back-injured employee to work. The three new training videos can be accessed within the Toolkit at: AskJAN.org/toolkit. Please scroll down through the videos for the latest additions.
The JAN Workplace Accommodation Toolkit was developed with assistance from Deb Dagit, Deb Dagit Diversity, Inc., and was informed by employers.
