Topsail Beach, NC Awarded Funds For Beach Access Project
April 13, 2014
The Town of Topsail Beach is one of eight local governments awarded a total of nearly $600,000 for public access improvement projects for coastal beaches this fiscal year.
Topsail Beach was awarded $45,391 for construction of a dune crossover compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to a release from the office of Governor Pat McCrory.
Other governments awarded funding include: Atlantic Beach, Kitty Hawk, Morehead City, Oriental, Swansboro, Washington and Windsor.
The funding is awarded through the Public Beach and Coastal Waterfront Access program of the N.C. Division of Coastal Management, which provides matching funds to local governments in the state’s 20 coastal counties. Grant recipients must provide a 25-percent local match.
Funding for the program is provided through the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund of the State of N.C. Access projects can include walkways, dune crossovers, restrooms, parking areas, piers and similar facilities, and funds can also be used for land acquisition or urban waterfront revitalization projects.
Recipients are decided based on criteria set by the N.C. Coastal Resources Commission.
